We’ve been producing gorgeous ceramics for over thirty years.

A world of colour and pattern

Potterswork was founded in 1986 by ceramicist Chris Silverston, whose vision laid the foundation for what has become one of South Africa’s most celebrated ceramic studios. From those beginnings, the heart of the business grew in Muizenberg, where artists from nearby communities were trained in the art of ceramics. It was here that Potterswork’s distinctive bead-like painting style was developed — a tactile, detailed approach that has become our signature.

Today, Potterswork is home to 14 talented painters and 20 skilled production staff, all working from our Cape Town studio. Every piece is made by hand, crafted with precision and care, and finished with patterns that reflect both tradition and personal artistic expression.

Each of our artists is trained in-house, nurturing their own creative voice — from bold and graphic to soft and organic. This spirit of mentorship and collaboration creates a rich tapestry of styles that defines our work, ensuring every item carries both skill and soul.

At Potterswork, we create exceptional, handcrafted ceramics that celebrate individuality, creativity, and enduring beauty. Our pieces blend artistic expression with everyday functionality, becoming part of daily life while elevating it with artistry.

Our ceramics are more than beautiful objects. They bring joy, colour, and meaning into homes around the world, while also supporting the dignity, prosperity, and creativity of every person who contributes to their making.

From our Cape Town studio, we export to leading design and lifestyle stores across North America, Europe, and Australasia. Each shipment carries with it not only the story of our craft but also the spirit of community, artistry, and care that is at the heart of Potterswork.
